CSM compensation variables
Gross Retention and Net Retention are the primary revenue metrics associated with recurring revenue businesses.
Along with Upsell/Cross-sell Revenue (itself a component of Net Retention), they represent more than half of reported metrics in the respondents’ variable compensation.
Retention is a classic lagging indicator, whereas NPS, adoption, and sales leads produced can be leading indicators for retention.
